The rearing and snarling Mastiff is chained to a post with a sign reading 'Passez Au Large'. The base is signed to the top 'CH VALTON' and to the rear is an impressed medallion reading 'Exposition Paris M.V H.V 1900'. Charles Valton was a well respected sculptor and exhibted over 70 pieces at the Paris Exhibition in 1900 before going on to become the Professor of sculpture at the Germain Pilon School, in 1906 Valton received the Cross of the Legion d'Honneur.
