A pair of contemporary Blue John geode ornaments mounted on white marble stands via brass posts. These particular specimens have a lovely rich purple colour to them.
Blue John is a rare, semi-precious mineral found exclusively in the Blue John and Treak Cliff Caverns in Castleton, Derbyshire, England. It's a variety of fluorite known for its distinctive purple, blue, and yellow banding. The name is believed to originate from the French "bleu et jaune," meaning "blue and yellow". Blue John has been mined for over two thousand years, initially by the Romans, and has been fashioned into ornamental objects for centuries.
