A pair of fine quality 19th century bronze Marly Horses on white marble bases raised on verd de gris wooden bases. Signed to the bronze 'Coustou'.
The original Marly Horses were commisioned in the 18th century by King Louis XV of France, to guard the entrance of his Chateaux de Marly, and were hand carved out of Carrara marble by Guillame Coustou as life size models.
