An Antique 19th Century Cornish Serpentine 'Marble' Weight Doorstop With Brass Loop.
Cornish serpentine is primarily found on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall, and is also known as Cornish Marble, although it is not a true marble geologically speaking. It is formed by metamorphic seafloor rock giving it rich veins containing green, red, dark hues. It was popular during the Victorian period with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert even buying pieces for Osbourne House.
