An Art Deco bronze of a nude ballet dancer by the renowned French artist Marcel Bouraine (1886-1948) raised on a cylindrical onyx base. This is a well modelled figure with good detail to the hair, hands, nails and feet. The ballet dancer expresses liberation and freedom in her pose. 
 
Marcel Bourain was born in Pontoise, France 1886. During The First World War he was taken captive as a prisoner of war to Switzerland. He later studied at École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Genève, becoming a prominent Art Deco sculpture in the 1920's and 30's, working with other artists such as the famous Gabriel Argy-Rousseau. Marcel Bourain exhibited at places such as; Salon des Artistes Français, Salon des Tuileries and The Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne of 1937 in Paris. His works can now be found in many different museums across the world, most notably the Art Institute of Chicago, with his pieces being highly sought after by private collectors.
