Hannah Barlow (1851-1916) was born in Little Hadham, Herts. Hannah studied at the Lambeth School of Art and began working for the Doulton Company in 1871, becoming their first female artist. While her sister Florence painted flowers and birds, Hannah focused her efforts on painting animals, particularly horses for which she became well renowned.
